صدر هذا الكتاب بمناسبة الندوة الدولية الأولى التي عقدها منتدى العلاقات العربية والدولية عن العلاقات العربية - البلقانية في الدوحة خلال 19- 20 نوفمبر 2014، وهو يستعرض جانباً من هذه العلاقات على مستويين تاريخيين متداخلين: حين كان البلقان يعتبر جزءاً من الشرق، وكانت بلغراد تعتبر "بوابة الشرق" حتى القرن التاسع عشر نتيجة للفتح العثماني وإنتشار الإسلام وإمتداداته الثقافية والحضارية في المنطقة، وحين استمرت العلاقات بين دول المنطقة التي ورثت المجال العثماني السابق مع الشرق من خلال الإستشراق بتلوناته المختلفة التي عكست التطورات السياسية في القرن العشرين.
