"بدمعتي وآهتي، ودعت قريتي الصغيرة، مخلفاً في أرضها رؤى كثيرة فقريتي: مطارح الصبا، ومحضن الشباب والمنى، وملعب لنشوتي، ومدرج لصبوتي، نهارها كدرة يتيمة، وفي ظلامها كنجمة وحيدة، وقريتي في كل ما لها وفي جمال كل ما تحويه أرضها فريدة فريدة تقوم فوق ربوة، تطل من عليائها، على السواحل القصية، فتية القوام غانية كأنها صبية، بدمعتي وآهتي غادرتها بمركب ضلت به الطريق دون أن يفيق وأودعته مهجراً بنيت فيه كوخي الصغير فوق تلة هناك وحزت أرضاً حوله، لأرمي البذور حولها، لعلها بفي بحاجتي وحاج طفلتي، بدمعتي وآهتي حييت غربتي المريرة عيناي ترقبان بلدتي الجميلة التي تبدو كجنة ظليلة لكنها كسيرة أسيرة تحتلها يد أثيمة حقيرة تقاذفت شبابها ويتمت صغارها وأوحشت بيوتها حتى بدت بلا نضارة ككومة من الحجارة، بدمعتي وآهتي قابلت جحد حفنة من الخليقة ببسمة رضية رقيقة، مرتفعاً عن كل ما يهينني حتة أرى في غير ما تري الحقيقة لكن حالتي: وقد كانت بليغة فصيحة أفضت بما تعنيه دمعتي ونظرتي وكل ما وراء سكتتي وكانت الفضيحة، البؤس قد طغى علي والجوع قد نما إلي كل الذي أخفته أو تخفيه عبقرية الحقيقة، بدمعتي وآهتي أشيع النهار والضياء وأرتجي ليالياً بلا عناء".
