يعالج هذا الكتاب مشكلات نسبة كبيرة من أبناء المجتمع تحرم من فرص التعليم المتكافئة مع أقرانهم من بني جلدتهم لأسباب إجتماعية أو إقتصادية أو عاطفية أو سلوكية.
فهذه الفئة لا ينقصها الذكاء ولا القدرات العقلية وإنما وقعت فيه لظروف خارجية فرضت عليها، والخسارة هنا خسارة مضاعفة مزدوجة؛ خسارة للفئة المحرومة، وخسارة للمجتمع.
إن العلاقة التفاعلية بين العوامل الإقتصادية والإجتماعية وغيرها وبين العوامل التعليمية علاقة معقدة ولها أوجه كثيرة.
من السهل أن نلقي اللوم في حالة الفشل الدراسي على الوالدين أو المجتمع أو البيئة أو الفقر أو غيره، ولكن في كثير من الحالات ننسى العوامل العافية والإقتصادية والإجتماعية وأثرها في سلوك الأطفال، إن مثل هذه العوامل قد تؤدي إلى ترك المدرسة أو الهروب منها.
ويعالج هذا الكتاب بصفة عامة كيفية ترقية التربية العافية وتحسينها بتركيز الضوء على الفئة المحرومة من الطلاب سواء كان هذا الحرمان ذو البيعة إقتصادية أو إجتماعية أو عاطفية.
كما يطرح أفكاراً لمعالجة الصعوبات السلوكية العاطفية والإجتماعية والإقتصادية التي يعاني منها الطلاب القادمون من بيئات محرومة.
وقد استخدم في هذا الكتاب أسلوب الدراسة والبحث الميداني التطبيقي من خلال دراسات وأبحاث قام بها أساتذة وجامعيون متخصصون في عدة بلدان من العالم منها مالطا وبريطانيا وكندا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
