الشعر ديوان العرب، فلقد اختصوا ببدائع المعاني، وبديع الأدب، ورقة الطبع، وجودة الفكر، ومحاسن الأحاسن، التي تضمنها سحر النثر والشعر، وهذا الأثر من آثار العلامة ابن بدران رحمه الله تعالى، وهو ديوانه الكبير الذي يقدمه المحقق لمحبيه ومتابعي آثاره في حُلَّةٍ جميلة. وقد افتتح ديوانه بمقدمة بليغة، ذكر فيها فضل الشعر وطرائقه، وأسباب نزوعه إليه، ورغبته فيه، وبيَّن حاله من هجره للأوطان لطلب العلم في سائر البلدان، فكان يروّح عن نفسه ببعض الأبيات، وتأسف لفقد أكثر شعره، فراح يبحث في ذاكرته عن بقايا الأطلال، مما حرَّك همته لجمعها، لتكون له تذكاراً وسميراً على ما مضى من الأحوال. ثم ابتدأ ديوانه فخصص باباً لما قاله في دمشق أثناء طلبه للعلم. وباباً لما قاله في الرحلة المغربية، وقد افتتحه بقصيدة رائعة، وذكر في هذا الباب صحبته وصداقته ولقاءه بالأعيان، وما تعرض له هو ورفاقه أثناء رحلته من أهوال في البحر، وذكر مراسلة بديعة لوالدته، ورسالة أخرى أرسلها إلى دومة مادحاً لها ولأهلها. وباباً لما قاله أثناء إقامته في دومة، ذكر فيه كافة فنون الشعر. وباباً للسوانح في المستشفى، فيما قاله عقب مرضه سنة 1342هـ. وقد عمل المحقق على تفصيلِ الديوان إلى مقاطع شعرية مع ترقيمها، وضبطِ الديوان بالشكل الكامل، وعلّقَ على مواطن يسيرة منه، وكتب ترجمة لصاحب الديوان مفصِّلة لحياته، ووضع فهارس شاملة لأعلامه وأماكنه وأبياته وموضوعاته.
