سأل الصغير "عبد الرحمن" جده: أين سنؤدى صلاة الجمعة يا جدى؟
قال الجد: "ستكون صلاتنا يوم الجمعة إن شاء الله فى مسجد منارته ملوية وهو من أقدم المساجد المحتفظة -رغم قدمها- بالتفاصيل المعمارية وشكلها الأصلى الذى نشأت عليه".
قال الصغير "عبد الرحمن": إذن ستكون صلاتنا هذه الجمعة فى مسجد "أحمد بن طولون" وسكت "عبد الرحمن" قليلاً ثم قال: "ومن أحمد بن طولون هذا يا جدى؟"
قال الجد: "إنه الأمير أبو العباس أحمد بن طولون الذى ولد ببغداد سنة 220 هـ الموافق 835 ميلادية".
قالت الأم: "زدنا معرفة بهذا الرجل الذى بنى هذا المسجد الكبير بالله عليك".
قال الجد: "كان أحمد بن طولون من الأطفال النابهين الأذكياء: تلقى المعرفة والثقافة من العلماء الأجلاء فاشتغل بالعلم حتى حصل على قسط وافر من المعارف والعلوم. كما تلقى العلوم العسكرية مما أهله ليكون قائداً حربياً أيضاً يمتاز بالشجاعة والإقدام".
