إن تكنولوجيا التعليم هي ذلك العلم الذي يدرس النظريات والممارسات الخاصة بتصميم مصادر التعلم وعملياته، وتطويرها، واستخدامها، وتقويمها، وإداراتها. ومن ثم، فقد حدد هذا التعريف مجالين رئيسين لتكنولوجيا التعليم، هما: المجال النظري المعرفي، والمجال العملي التطبيقي، وهذا الكتاب يندرج تحت المجال الثاني، مجال الممارسات العملية، إذ يتناول تكنولوجيات إنتاج مصادر التعلم المختلفة، ومن ثم فهو يهدف إلى تزويد الطلاب بالمعارف النظرية، والمهارات العملية الخاصة بإنتاج مصادر التعلم المختلفة، وتشمل المصادر المسموعة، والمكتوبة، والمصورة، والمرسومة.
وقسم هذا الكتاب إلى فصول رئيسة، وكل فصل إلى وحدات فرعية. يتناول كل فصل مجالاً واحداً مترابطاً من المجالات العملية. وتتناول كل وحدة موضوعاً فرعياً يرتبط بمجال الفصل. ويشتمل على سبعة فصول، الفصل الأول ويتناول التعريف بتكنولوجيا التعليم، من حيث مصادر التعلم وعملياته ونماذجها، الفصل الثاني ويتناول تكنولوجيا إنتاج مصادر التعلم المسموعة والمكتوبة، الفصل الثالث ويتناول تكنولوجيا إنتاج الصور والرسوم التعليمية.
الفصل الرابع ويتناول تكنولوجيا تصميم وتطوير الشفافيات التعليمية، الفصل الخامس ويتناول تكنولوجيا إنتاج المجسمات التعليمية، الفصل السادس ويتناول تكنولوجيا إنتاج الفيديو والتلفزيون التعليمي، وأخيراً الفصل السابع ويتناول تصميم البيئات التعليمية.
