في هذا الكتاب نقرأ حالات من أحوال المصلين وما يشعرون به من خشوع وإيمان وذوبان في الذات الإلهية لا يشعرها إلا من آمن بالله ورسله وملائكته واليوم الآخر. ويفتتحها الكاتب بحالات نبي الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في الصلاة، إذ كان يقول لبلال عند طلب الأذان: (أرحنا يا بلال)، كذلك نتعرف على وصية الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم في أثناء الصلاة. يلي ذلك أحوال الإمام علي في الصلاة، وكيف كان يتغير لونه. روي عنه في كتاب زهد أمير المؤمنين بإسناده إلى أبي عبد الله أنه قال: (كان علي إذا قام إلى الصلاة فقال: "وجهت وجهي للذي فطر السماوات والأرض" تغير لونه حتى يعرف ذلك في وجهه). كذلك يروي الكاتب إلى أحوال السيدة الزهراء في الصلاة، أحوال علي بن الحسين، وزين العابدين بن علي، وأبو ذر الغفاري، وتهجد الإمام الخميني والعلامة الطباطباني. وأهم ما يذكرنا به هو إحياء الليل. ويورد أحاديث كثيرة وقصصاً رائعة لعلماء المسلمين مثل الأستاذ مطهري ومحمد علي رجائي ومحمد إبراهيم الكلباسي والشيخ آخا بزرك الطهراني... إلى آخر ذلك من علماء قدامى وحديثين من عصرنا الراهن. كذلك نتعرف على روايات رائعة عن هؤلاء المؤمنين وكيف أن الله وفقهم في دينهم ودنياهم إلى محبته ورضاه تعالى. وما هي صلاة الشكر؟ ونموذج من صلاة الزهاد؟ وأن كثرة السجود يورد المؤمن الجنة... إلخ. ومن هذا الكتاب نقتبس هذه الشذرة: "جاء في وصف حال هذا الحكيم والفيلسوف العاقل أنه كان كل ليلة وعلى مدى الفصول الأربعة يقوم الثلث الأخير من الليل ويشتغل في ظلام الليل بالعبادة حتى طلوع الشمس"، من كتاب أسرار الحكم.
