بين يدي القارئ الكريم أعمال الموسم الثقافي لعام 2008/ 2009 لمركز تاريخ مصر المعاصر، والذي دار حول حرب الإستنزاف بمناسبة مرور أربعين عاماً عليها. وليس أولى من هذا المركز بالتركيز على إحياء ذكرى أطول الحروب الإسرائيلية العربية عمراً، حيث امتدت لأكثر من ثلاث سنوات إذا أخذنا فيها مرحلة الصمود عقب هزيمة 5 يونيو 1967 مباشرة إلى نهاية أغسطس 1968، وهي تصل إلى أربعة عشرة شهراً. وحتى إذا أخذنا حرب الإستنزاف منذ قررت مصر التحول من الصمود إلى الدفاع النشط في سبتمبر 1968 إلى قبول مبادرة روجرز في أغسطس 1970، فنحن بصدد ثلاثة وعشرين شهراً متواصلة من المواجهات الحربية، وهنا تتحدد سمات واضحة لحرب الإستنزاف فهي تقع بين أقصى الهزائم في 1967، وأكبر الانتصارات عام 1973، وهي أطول المواجهات زمنياً، وهي بداية للعسكرية المصرية المعاصرة، وهي صاحبة أطول فترات التجنيد الإجباري في تاريخ العسكرية المصرية لأكثر من مليون جندي من أبناء الثورة وخريجي مدارس وجامعات مصر نتاج التعليم المجاني، وهي تقع أيضاً بين موقفين شعبيين مصريين رائعين لا يمكن نسيانهما وهما 8و9 يناير حين رفض المصريون التخلي عن قيادة عبد الناصر في اول تكريم لرجل مهزوم ثقة في أنه رمز الوطن والثورة، ثم 27 سبتمبر 1970 حين خرجت نفس الجماهير تودعه إلى مثواه الأخير، هذا وقد شارك في هذا الموسم الثقافي نخبة متميزة من الباحثين الجامعيين والقادة العسكريين الذين شاركوا في هذه الحرب، وقدم بعضهم عرضاً شاملاً لتطورات حرب الإستنزاف، وعرض البعض الأخر لدور سلاح بعينه، بينما راجع البعض الثالث منهج تناول من أدانوا حرب الإستنزاف وعرضوا بها، وهم يعرضون- إما من حيث يدورن أو لا يدرون- بالجيش المصري الذي خاضها، وأنجز فيها من التضحيات ما لايصدقه إلا من خبر روح هذا الجيش العظيم.
