يان أسمان Jan Assmann (وُلِد 7 يوليو 1938) هو عالم مصريات ألماني، وُلِد في لانگلزهايم. ذهب إلى المدرسة في لوبك وهايدلبرگ قبل أن يذهب لدراسة علم المصريات، علم الآثار الكلاسيكية والدراسات اليونانية في ميونخ، هايدلبرگ، باريس وگوتنگن. كان أستاذ علم المصريات في جامعة هايدلبرگ من 1976 إلى 2003، وهو الآن في جامعة كونستانز. بالاضافة لذلك، فهو يعمل كأستاذ زائر في باريس (كلية فرنسا، École Pratique des Hautes Études, EHESS)، القدس (الجامعة العبرية، أبراشية دورمتيون) والولايات المتحدة (جامعة يل، جامعة هيوستن، جامعة شيكاغو).

الموت أو الرحلة إلى العالم الآخر ، الرحلة التى يجب على كل واحد منا أن يقوم بها رغما عنه ، والموت أو هذه الرحلة التى تدعونا للتساؤل : هل استعددنا لهذه الرحلة وكيف ؟ هذا السؤال راود المصريون القدماء ، وأخذ حيزا كبيرا من حياته .
المصرى القديم "كما جاء فى كتابنا هذا" يكون همه الأول فى حياته هو إعداد قبر يناسبه فى حياة ما بعد الموت ، وايضا بما يناسب وضعه ، فإن كان ملكا ، يبنى له قبر فى شكل هرم أو فى شكل نصب تذكارى ، وإن كان موضفا كبيرا ، يدفن بالقرب من قبر الملك ، وإن كان من العامة فيدفن معهم ، ولكن الجميع يتساوون فى أ ، هم يحنطون ، وأن أوزوريس هو مثلهم الأعلى.
