حصر هذا العمل المرجعي في أكثر من ألف صفحة كل الكلمات والنصوص والمواضع التي وردت في دواوين مختارة لثلاثة من أعلام الشعر المعاصر في الكويت، فأصبح بالتالي أداة مهمة لكل باحث في اللغة أو في الأدب أو التاريخ الثقافي، ينطلق منه موثقاً ودارساً ومؤرخاً ومقارناً. وأول الشعراء الذين تضمن هذا العمل المرجعي كلمات ديوانه هو "أحمد مشاوي" العدواني. وكان مثالاً نادراً في الإبداع والرؤية الثقافية. تجاوز جهده حدود الجزيرة العربية وامتد عطاؤه إلى كل ما جعل للكويت مكانة ثقافية متزايدة. وهو رائد العمل الثقافي في وزارة الإعلام.
ويضم هذا العمل أيضاً كلمات ديوان الدكتور "عبد الله العتيبي"، الذي كان رمزاً للعمل الجاد ورهافة الذوق والإخلاص النادر. إلى جانب هذا ضمّ المعجم كلمات ديوان شاعر أصيل، وهو الدكتور الوقيان الذي ينتمي إلى جيل البدايات القوية بجامعة الكويت. وعاش مرحلة الدراسات العليا بجامعات مصر. كان من تلك النخبة المتميزة التي تلتقي في رابطة الأدباء في أمسيات كاملة، الشعر يمثل إطارها العالم والتجديد في الأدب العالمي وفي الفكر وفي الفن يعطي ملامح الوحدة والتنوع أحياناً، ويرسم-أيضاً-آفاق المستقبل.
إلى جانب هذا كله يضم المعجم مدخلاً لدراسة الشعر الكويتي المعاصر، وهذا المدخل يعد أساساً مهماً للدراسة والتحليل، وفي إعداده تمّ الاعتماد على أربعة دواوين هي: أجنحة العاصفة، لأحمد العدواني، فرار الحلم، لعبد الله العتيبي، المبحرون مع الريح، لخليفة الوقيان، الخروج من الدائرة لخليفة الوقيان.
