إن للاستقراء أهمية كبرى في الدراسات الأصولية؛ ذلك أن الأصوليين هم الذين دققوا في فهم أشياء في كلام العرب لم يصل إليها النجاة ولا اللغويون؛ لأن كلام العرب متسع جدًا، والنظر فيه متشعب، فكتب اللغة تضبط الألفاظ، ومعانيها الظاهرة، دون المعاني الدقيقة التي تحتاج إلى نظر الأصول، واستقراء زائد على استقراء اللغوي، مثاله: دلالة صيغة "أفعل"؛ فإنها ترد لستة وعشرين معنى. وما أشبه ذلك من القائق التي تعرض لها الأصوليون وأخدوها باستقراء خاص.
كما أن كليات الشريعة، ومقاصدها المختلفة؛ من ضروريات، وحاجيات، و تحسينات، هو مما توصل إليه علماء الأصول والمقاصد عن طريق الاستقراء.
والإمام الشاطبي من كبار الأئمة الذين اعتمدوا الاستقراء في إثبات القواعد الأصولية، والمقاصدية المبثوثة في ثنايا كتابه "الموافقات"، فما هو مفهوم الاستقراء عند الإمام الشاطبي؟ وما طبيعته، وهل يعتبره دليلًا، أم منهجًا؟، هذا هو ما نعرفه عن هذا الكتاب.
