من الصعب أن أحكي ما حدث لي خلال تلك الفترة التي تمتد لعشر سنوات بشكل مستقيم تصاعدي، فهذا غير ممكن عمليًّا لأن حيواتنا ليست مثل أفلام السينما، وليست رواية تهتم بتطور الحدث وتناميه، وأنالا أنوي ولا أتعمد كتابة عمل أدبي بقدر اهتمامي بنبش الماضي بحثًا عن الأحداث التي تركت أثرها عميقًا في تكويني من جهة، وشكل الحياة في قرى مصر في تلك الفترة المهمة التي شهدت أحداثًا جسامًا: هزيمة 5 يونيو 1967، رحيل جمال عبد الناصر في 28 سبتمبر 1970، حرب الاستنزاف التي استمرات سنوات ست وصاحبها حراك شعبي وطني على كل الصعد، تثبيت السلطة في يد أنور السادات بسجن كل معارضيه في مايو 1971 فيما أطلق عليه اسم «ثورة التصحيح»، حرب أكتوبر في المدة من 6- 24/ 10/ 1973 التي شارك فيها أخي الأكبر، قانون الاستثمار المعروف باسم قانون الانفتاح الاقتصادي، وافتتاح قناة السويس. وقتها لم نكن نهتم كما ينبغي بتلك الأحداث الجسام، ربما لقلة التعليم والوعي، وربما لأن قريتنا كانت منسية لا تعرف ما يحدث إلا من خلال الراديو الذي يبث وجهة نظر واحدة، وربما لأن أهلنا كانوا مؤيدين بشكل تلقائي لجمال عبد الناصر، وربما لكل تلك العوامل مجتمعة، ولغيرها.
