في هذا الكتاب مجموعة قيّمة من الوثائق المختلفة التي تتضمن في طياتها ذكْرَ طائفةٍ من عائلات بلاد الشام في العهد العثماني وطرفٍ من أواخر العهد المملوكي الذي سبقَه. وقد تضمنت هذه الوثائق أسامي تلك العائلات، وجماعةً من أعيانها، وشيئاً من أنسابها وأصولها. وقد تنوّعت الوثائق علىٰ هيئاتٍ مختلفة، فكان منها عقود أنكحة، وقيود إرث، ووقفيات، وسندات ملكية، ومعاهدات، ومحاضر تقاضي وصلح وفضّ نزاعات، ومحاكمات، وتقييدات لحوادث تاريخية، وغير ذلك. كما أشار المؤلف في استعراضه لهذه الوثائق المنتخبة إلى حركة تنقلات بعض تلك العائلات، وتطوّر أسمائها، وحرّر بعض تفرّعاتها، وربما عرّج على شيءٍ ممَّا عُرفتْ به شؤون وخصال. إنّ هذا الكتاب يقدِّمُ للدارسين مادة غنية من الوثائق لا شكّ أنها ستكون رافداً مهماً لبحوثهم، لا سيّما وقد قضى المؤلف نحواً من ربع قرن في جمعها ودراستها.
