يعد كتاب (لذة العيش في طرق حديث "الأئمة من قريش" لمؤلفه الإمام أحمد بن علي بن حجر العسقلاني من كتب الحديث المهمة المتواترة الذي يحصر "حكم المسلمين في قبيلة قريش".
وقد كان السبب في تأليف إبن حجر لهذا الجزء ما ذكره في كتابه " السيل الجاري" و "فتح الباري" (7/32)؛ حيث قال: "وقد جمعت طرقه عن نحو أربعين صحابياً؛ لما بلغني أن بعض الفضلاء ذكر أنه لم يروَ إلا عن أبي بكر رضي الله عنه". ولما وصل في شرحه "فتح الباري" (6/530) لكتاب المناقب قال: "وقد جمعت في ذلك تأليفاً سميته: "لذة العيش بطرق "الأئمة من قريش".
يستند الكتاب في مضمونه إلى شرح الحديث الوارد عن رسول الله (ص) في قوله: "لا يزال هذا الأمر في قريش ما بقي في الناس إثنان". أخرجه الشيخان: البخاري، ومسلم في "صحيحهما" عن أحمد بن يونس بهذا الاسناد، ولفظ البخاري " ما بقي منهم إثنان". ومطلق هذه الرواية تدل على أن "الإمامة لا تزال في قريش ما بقي منهم إثنان، أو ما بقي من الناس جميعا إثنان".
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب اعتمد الأستاذ "محمد ناصر العجمي" في تحقيقه على نسخة خطية من مكتبة بايزيد في استانبول، عدد الأسطر فيها (21) سطراً، وهي بخط نسخي معتاد، وناسخها هو :أبو بكر الأزهري، وكان قد انتهى من نسخها في الرابع من شعبان سنة (845ه).
هذا، وقد وثق "العجمي" ما عزاه الحافظ ابن حجر إلى موطنه، ولم يتعقبه في أحكامه، وجمع طرق هذا الحديث والمقصود به (الأئمة من قريش". وجهد لبيان ما صح منها مما هوة ضعيف، ونسب كل طريق منها إلى من أخرجها من الأئمة، وسياق غالب ذلك بالإسناد إلى راويه، وجعله على قسمين:
الأول: في سياق الأخبار الواردة في ذلك بغير قيد.
والثاني: في سياق الأخبار الواردة في ذلك بقيد، وبيان ذلك القيد، وما يترتب عليه من الحكم، وأتبع ذلك بحكم المسألة عند أهل العلم، وأحيانا بجعلها في تصنيف "مفرد".
