إن ظروف موت السيد المسيح وضعت بدقة من قبل كتبة الأناجيل( متى ومرقص ولوقا ويوحنا), وخلال قرون لم تكن بعض التفاصيل تقبل إلا من باب الإيمان, وليس من باب القناعة العلمية, وقد اعتبرت لدى المشككين والملحدين, سبباً وجيهاً للامعقولية الحدث. لكن التقدم العلمي, خصوصاً, بمجالي الطب والتنقيب الأثري وتطبيقهما على القصة الإنجيلية, وعلى الكفن الموجود بمدينة تورينو بإيطاليا. مكّن من إعادة وضع النصوص, التي تصف حادثة الصلب في الأناجيل الأربعة على مشرحة العلم والنقد من جديد, هذه المشرحة العلمية الدقيقة, ما كان يخطر ببال كتبة تلك النصوص الإنجيلية أنه سيأتي يوم يعاد النظر فيها من خلال استخدام طرائق علمية منها تحليل الكربون14 أو استعمال أشعة اكس مثلاً, أو علم الآثار المقارن, مما أتاح إعادة التركيب الطبي والعلمي للأيام الأخيرة التي سبقت الصلب والقيامة, وإظهار حقيقة ما جرى خلال تلك الساعات المصيرية والرهيبة من حياة عيسى المسيح. ومن أهم محتويات الكتاب: الوثائق التاريخية, الصلب, مراحل آلام وعذاب السيد المسيح.
