يتناول هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه نصوص جديدة عن تاريخ حلب في أواخر القرن العاشر الهجري / السادس عشر الميلادي، وتأتي أهمية النص المُحقق من أنه مُرتَّب على الحوادث لا على الترَاجم كما هو الحال في الكتب التي ألفت عن تاريخ حلب منذ عهد ابن العديم.
وقد جاء تسجيل هذه الحوادث نتاج المشاهدة والمشافهة، لهذا ندرِ أن يكون لهذه الأخبارِ مثيل في المصادر المعاصرة، وألحقتُ بنَصّ المنتقي من المُسودَّة ما استطعتُ التقاطه من مُعجمه الذي لم تهتد إلى مظان وجوده في خزائن المخطوطات حتى اليوم.
وقد قدَّمتُ للمنتقى والمُلتقط بدراسة جاء قسمها الأول عن الشيخ عمر العُرضي شملت حياته ومؤلفاته وذريته، والثاني تحدثتُ فيه عن مادة المنتقى ومنهج مؤلَّفه فيه ونُسخته الخطية، ثم عن المعجم ومحتواه وكيفية جمعي لمادته، وذيّلتُ ذلك ببعض النصوص الشفهية للعُرضي سمْيتُها بـ"إعلام النبيه بما أوردهُ أبو الوفا عن أبيه"، ثم مُلحقين.
