"ملكوم إكس" اسم عرف من خلال ارتباطه بالنضال الأسود في أميركا والذي طبق الآفاق في الستينات. وكتاب سيرته الذاتية الذي ألفه أليكس هاليي كان له انتشاره وأهميته على صعيد شباب الأحياء الزنجية. حيث عكس المؤلف من خلال تلك السيرة الذاتية أوضاع الزنوج الأمريكيين في تلك الآونة ونضاله مالكوم إكس من أجل رفع الظلم والعبودية عنهم. ومن خلال الترجمة التي قامت بها ليلى أبو زيد والتي هي بين أيدينا، تضيف المترجمة أهمية إلى أهميته حيث تركز على حركة المسلمين السود في أميركا لتلقي بذلك الضوء على هذه الحركة التي استمدت من الإسلام القوة للمطالبة بحقوق إنسانية سُلِبوها منذ أربعة قرون، ولكن جهلهم للإسلام لكونه بالنسبة إليهم وسيلة لا غاية، حاد بهم عنه، ودمرهم فأساؤوا له ولأنفسهم.
