بدر الدين بن جماعة أبو عبد الله الكناني الحموي، شيخ الإسلام وقاضي القضاة في الشام ومصر وخطيب المسجد الأقصى والجامع الأزهر والجامع الأموي، (639 هـ- 733 هـ)، ولد في حماة وعاش فيها وتنقل وعاش فترة بدمشق ومصر.

ولد شهر ربيع الثاني سنة 639 هجري في حماة في سورية الشام. ونشأ بدر الدين بن جماعة في أسرة عربية مشهورة بالعلم والصلاح حيث كان والده وأخواه من أهل الحديث والعلم والتقوى.

بالرغم من وفرة شروح "كافية ابن الحاجب" التي تربو على مائتي شرح؛ فإن هذا الشرح يعد من أفضل وأوفى شروح "الكافية"؛ لما تميز به من نظرات لغوية تلتقي مع المناهج الحديثة لعلم اللغة، وبخاصة المنهج الوصفي.
وقد قدمت للتحقيق بمقدمة احتوت على أربعة مباحث؛ هي:
المبحث الأول: ويتناول التعريف بصاحب المخطوط (بدر الدين بن جاعة) وعصره، وآثاره العلمية وما حقق منها وما لم يحقق، وما طبع منها وما لم يطبع.
المبحث الثاني: تناول التعريف بابن الحاجب، وآثاره العلمية وأماكن وجودها، وما حقق منها ولم لم يحقق، وما طبع منها وما لم يطبع.
المبحث الثالث: ويتناول التعريف بالمخطوط موضوع التحقيق، وتحقيق نسبة المخطوط وعنوانه، كما تناول موضوع المخطوط ومنهج المؤلف في تصنيفه.
المبحث الرابع: ويتناول المنهج الذي التزمته في تحقيق نص المخطوط. ثم يأتي بعد ذلك تحقيق نص مخطوط "شرح كافية ابن الحاجب" لبدر الدين ابن جماعة، يعقبه ثبت بفهارس الكتاب، وفي ذيله قائمة بمصادر ومراجع التحقيق.
