كان المصري القديم يحترم حياة الإنسان, إذا أضطر أحياناً إلي اللجوء إلي العنف والقسوة, فيما شنه من حروب دفاعية, فإن هذه الظاهرة كانت في كثير من الأحيان مجرد عنف لفظي هدفه تدمير الأعداء تدميراً سحرياً, فقد كان المصري محباً للسلام حتي وصفه بأجمل العبارات, كما أحسن معاملة الأجراء وأغدق عليهم بكل ما لذ وطاب.
ولا تقتصر عظمة ملوك الرعامسة علي ما خاضوه من حروب, بل علي ما شيدوه من عمائر؛ رغبة منهم في قهر الموت وقوي الخواء والفوضي التي تحاصر الوجود, كما أهتموا بترميم آثار أجدادهم والحفاظ عليها, فكان أحد أبناء رعمسيس الثاني أول عالم مصريات في التاريخ ومؤسس أول مصلحة آثار.
ويقدم الكتاب مقتطفات من أجمل الحكايات, وقصائد الشعر الغنائي؛ تعبيراً عن حب المصري القديم للحياة والجمال.
