إن الاشتغال بحديث النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لمن أشرف الأعمال، ومن المعلوم ضرورة لدى المسلم أن السنة هي المصدر الثاني من مصادر التشريع بعد كتاب الله عز وجل.
وهذا المصدر إنما نُقل إلينا بالأسانيد إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، والإسناد هو مما خُصت به هذه الأمة دون غيرها من الأمم، وذلك فضل من الله عظيم، فالإسناد هو السور المتين الذي حمى الله به دينه من إبطال المبطلين وكذب الدجالين وتحريف الفاسدين.
وهذا البحث إنما هو دراسة لصنعة الأسانيد في كتاب عظيم من كتب هذا الفن، لمحدث من المحدثين الأفذاذ الذين كان لهم اعتناء كبير بهذا العلم، وهو الإمام أبو القاسم علي بن الحسن بن هبة الله المعروف بابن عساكر، وكتابه هو ’تاريخ مدينة دمشق حماها الله وذكر فضلها وتسمية من حلها من الأماثل أو اجتاز بنواحيها من وارديها وأهلها‘، هذا الكتاب الذي لم يصنف مثله، وهو موسوعة بحق، فمن طلب الحديث وجده فيه، ومن طلب التاريخ وجده فيه، ومن طلب اللغة وجدها فيه، ومن طلب أخبار الناس وأحوالهم وجد ذلك فيه، إلى غير ذلك من العلوم الكثير.
ومن هنا جاءت هذه الدراسة متميزة بمزايا مهمة، منها:
1 ـ أنها دراسة ميدانية لأسانيد واقعة في مرجع حديثي تاريخي جليل.
2 ـ أنها تطبيق عملي لأصول النقد عند أئمة الحديث.
3 ـ أنها تقدم أمثلة جديدة كثيرة جداً لأنواع الحديث وقواعدها.
4 ـ أنها توازن مصطلحـات الحافظ ابن عساكر بمصطلحـات جمهور المحدثين، ولذلك أهميته.
5 ـ أنها تكسب دارسها التعمق في دراسة الحديث ونقده وكشف علله، وذلك مطلب علمي عظيم يتنافس فيه أهل العلم وطلبته.
