لقد توجهت هذه الدراسة لبحث ( منهج نقد النص الديني: الأصول والتطبيقات) بين مفكرين رائدين فى تاريخ الذكر الإنسانى كله ، هما: ابن حزم الندلسى المتوفى سنة 456 هـ والفيلسوف باروخ اسبينوزا المتوفى سنة 1676م. فقد حلل كلاهما نص الأسفار الخمسة المسماة: التوراة أو الشريعة المنسوبة إلى موسى عليه السلام وهذه السفار هى: التكوين،والخروج، والعدد، واللاويين، والتثنية أو التكرار. حلل كلاهما هذه الأسفار - باعتبارها وثيقة تاريخية دينية- تحليلا منهجيا نقديا فقد خصص ابن حزم شطرا كبيرا من كتابه الموسوعى (الفصل فى الملل والأهواء والنحل) لذلك الغرض، كما أفرد سبينوزامعظم كتابه ( رسالة فى اللاهوت والسياسة) لذلك الهدف، وقد اعتمد البحث على ترجمة الأستاذ الدكتور حسن حنفى الرصينة لهذا الكتاب من اللغة الفرنسية التى نشرتها الهيئة المصرية العامة للكتاب بالقاهرة 1972م ، وعلى الترجمة الإنجليزية له من الأصل اللاتيني- فى بعض المواضع - التى نشرتها pinguin ضمن الأعمال الكاملة للفيلسوف اسبينوزا.
