إن التوبة لها طريقان: الأول قبل الأربعين وهذا ما يبدل السيئات إلى حسنات ويغفر الله بها كل الذنوب. والثاني بعد الأربعين ولا يوجد مصادر يمكن الاعتماد عليها بأنها ماحية للذنوب قبل الأربعين حيث أن الله يقبل التوبة من عبده ويحاسب على ما اقترف من ذنوب قبل الأربعين وذلك لكونه يعلم بعصيانه وأعطى نفسه حجة على الله وتناسى أنه معرّض للموت في أية لحظة. وهذا ما جعل سلمان يتحدث مع صاحبه أبي ذر حيث قال: "ما أملك أبا ذر في الدنيا؟ فقال: أملي إذا أصبحت فلا أمسي وإذا أمسيت فلا أصبح. فقال سلمان: الله الله ما أطول أملك يا أبا ذر. فعجب الرجل من ذلك وقال: ما أَمَلُكَ أنت يا سلمان؟ فقال: والذي بعث محمداً بالنبوة إن أملي إذا صعد لا ينزل وإذا نزل لا يصعد".
فهذا ميزان الحياة الحقيقي عند أولياء الله، فمن يعلم أنه سوف يقوم من فراشه صباحاً ومن يعلم أنه سيعيش يومه حتى يؤخر توبته بعد الأربعين من عمره؟!! وما هذا الكتاب إلا بضاعة للآخرة، ليكون منهاجاً لكل مسلم طالباً لرضى الله، ويعتمد عليه في ابتغاء الخير وتجنب الشر وهذا هو سبيل من السبل المنجية من عذاب النار.
