يبحث في الممهدات الفلسفية والدلالات المعرفية التي بنى عليها إخوان الصفاء نظريتهم الأخلاقية في عصر الإضطراب السياسي والاقتصادي والأخلاقي .ومن هنا يمضي الكتاب إلى مفهومي الجماعة عن الطبع والإعتقاد ,وإلى مفاهيمها الاجتماعية الصداقة والتعاون والدينية الزهد رفض التعصب ,إلى علاقة الجماعات الباطنية بالمنهج الإمامي وعلاقة إخوان الصفاء بهذا المنهج ,لما لذلك من أثر في نظريتهم الأخلاقية التي سيقارنها الكتاب بالمفاهيم الأخلاقية لدى معاصريهم من الفلاسفة (التوحيدي -الفارابي- مسكويه) .إنها إضاءة عملية جديدة لما لم يحظ بالاهتمام الكافي من أغلب الدارسين عرباً كانوا أو مستشرقين من تراث إخوان الصفاء .ويبحث الكتاب في الحياة السياسية والاجتماعية في القرن الرابع الهجري ,الأخلاق الطبيعية والاجتماعية والدينية عند إخوان الصفاء ,المنهج الإمامي وعلاقتها بالأخلاق عند إخوان الصفاء ,منزلة النظرية الأخلاقية عند إخوان الصفاء بين النظريات الأخلاقية في القرن الرابع الهجري .
