يوضح هذا الكتاب أن الله سبحانه وتعالى خلق الإنسان وعلمه البيان، فاللغة فطرته لدى الإنسان وزوده سبحانه بملكه اكتساب اللغة، ولما كانت اللسانيات تدرس اللغة دراسة علمية منضبطة ومحكمة، شأنها شأن العلوم الأخرى فإنها اهتمت بتحليل اللغة إلى أبسط عناصرها وبإعادة تركيب هذه العناصر بشكل متدرج، وهذا ما عبر عنه بمستويات اللغة: الأصوات والفونيمات والمورفيمات والكلمات والمركبات والجمل.
وقد اجتازت اللسانيات مراحل مختلفة، ركزت في المرحلة الأولى على وظيفة العنصر من خلال موقعه بالنسبة إلى مواقع العناصر الأخرى القيمة الموقعية، وهذا ما يعرف باللسانيات التقريرية الشكلية، ثم انتقلت إلى دراسة التركيب وتفسير هذا التركيب، وهذا هو ما يعرف باللسانيات التفسيرية.
إن اللسانيات في المرحلتين السابقتين ركزت على اللغة باعتبارها أبنية عقلية، أما في المرحلة الثالثة فركزت على وظيفة اللغة في الاتصال، وهنا اهتمت بالكلام وأدى هذا إلى ضم التداولية إليها. إن تأثر اللسانيات بالتداولية جعلها تنتقل من دراسة الجملة بوصفها أكبر وحدة نحوية إلى دراسة النص بوصفه الوحدة الكبرى الأساسية للتحليل، وهذا هو ما يعرف باللسانيات النصية.
إن هذا الكتاب يتتبع رحلة اللسانيات هذه، ويهتم بتطبيق ذلك على العربية الفصحى، وأرجو أن يضع هذا الكتاب لبنة في صرح الدراسات اللغوية العربية لتصبح العربية لغة عالمية تجمع بين التراث والمعاصرة.
