ثمة منهجان لمعالجة قضايا الفكر العربى السياسى والاجتماعى والاقتصادى, أولهما: التعرض لأفكار الحرية والتجديد السياسى والتطور الديمقراطى بصورة كلية شاملة, حيث يتم الحديث عن الأفكار الليبرالية والحياة الدستورية مثلا, ثم تناول أوجه التطور الاجتماعى وعلاقته بالتحولات الاقتصادية التى حدثت فى الوطن العربى خلال عدد من السنوات قد تمتد فتشمل قرنا بأكمله أوبضعة عقود.. وهكذا.
وثانيهما: تناول السيرة الذاتية للمفكرين العرب الكبار, وإيضاح الجوانب الرائدة فى إسهاماتهم فى تلك القضايا موضوع البحث: قضايا التحديث السياسى والدستورى والديمقراطى, وموضوعات الصراع الاجتماعى, وأساليب مقاومة الاستعمار سواء الجديد منه أو القديم, وأسس بناء الدولة العربية الحديثة, ومناهج مقاومة حملات التغريب الثقافى والفكرى التى قادتها الحملات الاستعمارية على بلدان الوطن العربى
هذا المنهج الذى يقف بالبحث والتقصى عند كل مفكر عربى, وجدت أنه الأنسب والأفضل عند عرض تلك القضايا الكلية الكبيرة للجيل العربى الجديد, وذلك لسببين: أولا: أن هذا المنهج يجسد الجوانب الإنسانية والكفاحية لهذا المفكر أوذاك, أما السبب الثانى: فيتعلق بطبيعة العرض الفكرى والنقدى لتلك القضايا الكبرى التى شغلت حياة هؤلاء القادة.
وفى هذا الكتاب أجدنى أمام عمل ومنهج ورؤية جمعتنى مع تلك الكوكبة الرائدة عند عرض المسيرة الإنسانية والفكرية والثقافية لرواد وقادة الفكر العربى الحديث, والفكر العربى فى اعتقادى هو لوحة واحدة برغم التنوع فى الأداء أو الاختلاف فى التوجه السياسى أو المعتقد الدينى أو المذهب السياسى.. فالكل يشكلون معا كتيبة التحديث والتطوير والتقدم, كتيبة المقاومة للغازى المستعمر أو المستوطن الصهيونى, كتيبة الاستنارة والتسامح والنهضة.
