الشعراء العشرة الذين تجد أشعارهم فيما بين يديك، تجمعهم رابطة دفعت بنا إلى التفكير في ضم دواوينهم إلى بعضها بعضًا، ورابطتهم تلك، أساسها المعلقات السبع، فبعضهم أصحابها وبعضهم الحق الشراح قصائد لهم بها، فشرحوها معها، وسيروها سيرتها، وأسكنوها سكنها، فأما الشعراء منهم أصحاب المعلقات السبع، فهم: امرؤ القيس الكندي، وطرفة بن العبد البكري، وزهير بن أبي سلمى المزني، ولبيد بن ربيعة العامري، وعمرو بن كلثوم بن مالك التغلبي، وعنترة العبسي، والحارث بن حلزة اليشكري، هذا الترتيب مختلف فيه، والحصر أيضًا، ولكنه على أي حال، هو الذي ترجح واستقر، ودام واستمر، وهو الذي سار السيرة، وتواتر الوتيرة، وتناقلته العصور، وطال عليه مر الدهور.
