لم يسبق أن كتب في موضوع المفاضلة بحث مستقل شامل، فليس ثمة بحث يجمع شتاته ويوضح مآخذه، ويجلو أهميته ويبين أثره في اعتقاد المسلم وسلوكه، فالموضوع متناثر في مظانه، وهو بهذا التناثر لم تظهر أهميته أصلًا بنيت عليه عقائد ضالة وزلت فيه أقدام ويجب فيه اعتقاده، ففي إفراده بالبحث جمع لشتاته وإظهار لأهميته ووقوف على ما يجب فيه وما يحذر منه وقوفًا أمكن وأضبط لو بقي على حاله، وهذا هو الذي قصدت إليه فتوكلت على الله وسعيت لجمع متفرقات هذا الموضوع فكتبت هذا البحث وأسميته: "مباحث المفاضلة في العقيدة".
وقسمته إلى تمهيد وبابين وخاتمة، أما التمهيد فهو في بيان معنى المفاضلة وألفاظها ووجوهها. أما الباب الأول فهو في فضل الخالق سبحانه وتفاضل صفاته، والباب الثاني فهو في تفاضل الخلق.
