بصدور هذا السفر يضع الدكتور حسن أبشر الطيب بين يدى قرائه كتابه الثالث عش وحصيلة عمره الثقافي الممتد من أيام الطلب إلى أزمان النضج والرسوخ ، فقد صدر كتابه الأول عام 1970 ومنذ ذلك التاريخ ظلت تتوالى على القراء مؤلفاته العديدة المتنوعة شاهدة على واحد من أكثر الأقلام السودانية خصوبة وتنوعا. فقد شمل إنتاجه مجالات النقد الأدبي والتراجمع والتأريخ في الآداب والإنسانيات. ينتمي المؤلف إلى جيل الستنيات في السودان وهوجيل يجمع إلى الريادة الإبداعية المواكبة المستمرة والتجويد المتفوق والاطلاع الغزير. وتفصح آثاره بوضوح تام عن تطورة الفكري من متأدب إلى مفكر . وهذا السفر الذي بين يدي القارئ الآن ساهد على صحة تلك المقولة ، فها هى بين أيدينا ما يقرب من أربعين مقالة في مختلف شئون الحياة والثقافة في السودان .. تتناول فيما تتناول أعلامه الكاب: الطيب صالح والمجذوب وجمال محمد احمد والتجاني الماحى ومحمد إبراهيم أبو سليم. كما تتناول أهل الفن والإبداع فيه : أحمد المصطفى وعبد العزيز دواد وليلى المغربي.. إلى جانب أشهر آثاره الأدبية المعاصرة: " موسم الهجرة إلى الشمال" و" غضبة الهبباي" و "أمتى" .. ثم نقلات واسعات من السير والتراجم إلى التناول الموضوعي لبعض مظاهر الثقافة المحلية مثل الخلوةومجالس البرامكة التى تصطبح وتغتبق على الشاي المنعنع وليس على السلاقة والصهباء.
