على كَتِفَيْ بحيرة "ألبانو" القريبة من روما، في قصر "كاستل غاندولفو"، مقرّ البابوات الصيفي، الذي عايش القرون وتحدَّى العصور، جلس رجلان يتحادثان؛ الأول رئيس الكنيسة المنظور، قداسة البابا بندكتوس السادس عشر، والثاني صحافي شاب صديق، اسمه "بيتر سيفالد"، عمل في كبرى الصحف الألمانية والعالمية.
جرى الحديث بين رجل هادئ يحمل على كتفيه أثقال رسالة حيّة أبدية، ورجل شاب مُرهَف الإحساس مُتفهِّم لأمور الساعة، مُدرِك لعلامات الأزمنة، يقارب المواضيع الطارئة بمعرفة دون تردّد أو رجل؛ جرى الحديث هادئاً هدوء البحيرة في أسفل الجبل، وجاء الأسلوب سَلِساً كهواء التلة الرومانية.
استمر الحوار ساعات متتالية طوال أسبوع كامل، وتناول مواضيع كثيرة واقعية، زمنية وروحية، محزناً بعضها ومفرحاً بعضها الآخر؛ طُرحت أسئلة ملحة، وطرأت مواضيع محرجة تتعلّق بالكنيسة بشكل خاص وبالعالم بشكل عام، تردّ على أسئلة الكثيرين وتُثبِّت إيمان المُتردِّدين، تكلم الباب بندكتوس السادس عشر ببراعته الفكرية، بسلاسته الكتابية وعمقه اللاهوتي، بصفاته الفلسفي ودقَّته الكَهَنُوتية.
تحدّث بنديكتوس السادس عشر عن رسالة "الباباوات الذين لا يهبطون من السماء"، ولم يتحاشَ التَّطرُّق لمشاكل عصرية مثل ديكتاتورية النسبيّة والفضائح الجنسية في وسط الكنيسة "الطاهرة" والإبتعاد عن تعاليمها وآدابها، اعترف بأن من واجباته الأمانة على إيصال البشرى السعيدة سليمةً لمَن يريد أن يسمعها، وهو مُؤتَمن على مؤسسة قِوامها الإيمان، عقيدتها سَرْمديَّة وأوضاع مجتمعها تتطلب منها تطوراً وتجدداً وشهادةً أسمى وأبلغَ لتعاليم الإنجيل، وهي تتضمّن بشرى حيةٌ، عقلانية، فاعلة، تتوجّه إلى الإنسان في شموليته، قلباً وعقلاً، واقعاً وخيالاً، ويَتخطى جوهرها الواقع والحاضر؛ أثمر الحديث مع البابا كتاب "نور العالم" كدعوة للمعرفة والتعارف...
