لا أدعي أن من لم يقرأ هذا الكتاب فكأنه ما عرف السياب، لكنني ببساطة أقول أن من أغفل الدلالات والإشارات المحلية في شعر السياب، فكأنه لم يقرأ السياب، كما لم يفعل النقاد العرب من قبل، وأنى لهم إدراك معاني المحل السيابي الذي لم يشربوا من فراته، ولم يأكلوا من رُطبه الجني، ولا استمتعوا بأناشيده وهم أطفال يرقصون تحت نثيث المطر في قرى البصرة.
ومن البديهي القول إن إتخاذ دراسة الهوية المحلية للشعر عند السياب كمنهجية لدراسة المحليات الأخرى لدى الشعراء العرب في مختلف بلدانهم - وهو ما يطمح إليه الكتاب - سيوفر مادة نقدية وأدبية في غاية الأهمية، بل سيعيد الإعتبار لكثير من القيم الفنية، والثيمات الأدبية المحلية التي حوتها النصوص الأدبية العربية دون أن تحظى بمن يسلط الضوء عليها من قبل.
إن مادة الكتاب متداخلة ومركبة لأنها تخوض في تفاصيل ما ما اصطلح على تسميته "علم الإجتماع الأدبي" وعلم الإناسة "الأنثروبولوجي" بالإضافة إلى فقه اللغة والنقد المقارن، حيث لا يسع الياحث في "المحليات" إلا أن يلم بأطراف العديد من العلوم والمناهج النقدية القديمة والحديثة لكي يتسنى له الخروج بنتيجة مرضية لبحثه في هذا المضمار المعقد والممتع في آن معاً...
