يعتبر التاريخ الاسلامى الافريقى جزءا لا يتجزأ من تاريخ العالم الاسلامى وخصوصا فى أوج إذدهار ومجده ولكن للاسف قد تعرض ها التاريخ للاهمال والنسيان نتيجة لعدة عوامل منها سياسة الاستعمار الأوربي الذى قطع أواصر الصلة بين ماضى القارة وحاضرها ختى يسهل عليه افتراسها ومسخ شخصيتها لذلك عانى هذا التاريخ الاهمال الشديد كما أن انشغال العالم الاسلامى بقضاياه الاقليمية جعل التاريخ الاسلامى الافريقى فى دائرة النسيان على الرغم من أهمية كثرات انساني أولا وإسلامى ثانيا . بالاضافة لتوجه الجهود تجاه التاريخ الاسلامى المشرق ولكن على الرغم من الغبن والظلم الذى تعرض له التاريخ الافريقى وجدت قلة من الباحثين تهتم بالتاريخ الاسلامى الافريقي وقد استطاعوا إبراز أوجه الانجازات الحضارات الافريقية وأماطوا اللثام عن كثير من هذا التاريخ ومع ذلك يظل التاريخ الاسلامى الافريقى بحاجة الى بذلك كثير من الجهود لإظهاره فى صورته الحقيقية .
