سألته وهي تتلاعب بالسلسلة كأنه شيء عابر يقال بعد سنين من الغياب. لم يتلاشى جمالها رغم تقدم العمر بها. أتشعر بالندم أيها العجوز؟ أقادر على تحمل الألم؟
لم يتفوه بكلمة. ظل يراقبها وهي تتمعن بنظرها في ألوان تبددت على ظهر السلاحف كأنه قوس قزح يربط عالمين ببعضهما البعض، التفتت إليه وتفحصته سريعاً. التقت عيونهما. غضت من بصرها، ثم تحركت من مكانها تتفحص باقي الأحواض، وأصابعها تداعب السلسلة. أما هو فظل حارساً مكانه، كأنه يسابق السلحفاة على التجمد الأبدي.
