هذه رسالة موجزة توضح العقيدة الإسلامية مبسوطة ميسرة نيرة في أوراق قليلة مكثفة المعاني، حتى أنها لم تغادر كبيرة أو صغيرة من أمور المعتقد إلا وذكرته. كتبها شيخ الإسلام "ابن تيمية" بناء على سؤال وجه إليه قاضي واسط بعد أن اقتحم المغول العراق وبعض بلاد الجزيرة وجنوب العراق، وعمموا مع تقدمهم الخراب والدمار، كما نشروا الفساد في العقائد بواسطة من رافقهم من علماء السوء، ودعاة التحلل من الدين من الملحدين، أضف إلى ذلك ما يسود بين عامة الناس من آثار الحروب والهجرة، من يأس قد يصل بعضهم إلى ضعف في مثله العليا التي نشأ عليها.. فكان الجواب الشافي الكافي من شيخ الإسلام، وقد كتبه بعد صلاة العصر في مجلس واحد، وتناقل الناس هذه العقيدة إلى مختلف البلاد. ولكن أهل السوء لم يسكتوا وبعد سنوات حركوا الحكام على ابن تيمية: بأن في العقيدة أشياء لا توافق ما هم عليه!! وعقد مجلس عند نائب السلطنة الأفرم. فرد عليهم شيخ الإسلام مسألة مسألة، وكلمة كلمة حتى لم يجدوا مناصاً من التسليم في مجلس نائب السلطنة.
