لذلك فقد لاحظ المؤلفين أثناء إجرائهما للعديد من دراسة الحالة أن الأخصائيين يحتاجون لدليل مختصر يساعدهم في القيام بإجراء دراسة الحالة كشكل من الأشكال الجديدة، ولذلك انطلقوا عند تأليف هذا الكتاب من فكرة أن كل مشكلة يمكن ان ترتبط بنوع معين من الأسئلة ونموذج معين، وهذه الأسئلة قد تساعد في تشخيص والوصول إلى إفتراضات لوجود المشكلة أو الحالة، ومن ثم قد تساعد في وضع أهداف علاجية وإستخدام أساليب نفسية وإجتماعية وإرشادية مناسبة لتلك الحالة، ومن هذا المنطلق فقد عمد المؤلفين إلى العمل على تطوير موضوع جديد وغير متعارف عليه حول دراسة الحالة، ويأمل المؤلفين أن يكون هذا الكتاب إنطلاقة في تطور دراسة الحالة كأسلوب علاجي مهم لا يستغني عنه أي أخصائي مهما كان.
إن هذا الكتاب بما فيه من معلومات نظرية مهمة وتطبيق عملي صيغ بأسلوب سهل وشيق وبعيد عن التعقيد والإطالة حيث حاول المؤلفين أن يعملا على تطوير أسلوب مبتكر في دراسة الحالة، يمكن أن يخدم كلا من الأخصائي النفسي والأخصائي الإجتماعي والمرشد التربوي والطلابي ومعلمي التربية الخاصة، وأيضاً يمكن أن يخدم هذا الكتاب الدارسين في الحقول التربية كافة، ويخدم كذلك المدرسين وأعضاء هيئة التدريس في كلية العلوم التربوية والنفسية والإجتماعية.
