هاجر الحضارمة إلى شبه القارة الهندية المشتملة على بلاد الهند وما كان يتبعها تاريخياً كالباكستان غرباً والبنغال شرقاً وجزيرة سيلان جنوباً، وكان لهم فيها إسهامٌ وتاريخ ناصع في خدمة الدعوة الإسلامية، وشواهد هذا كثيرة، لكنها متفرقة مبثوثة، غير مجموعة ولا مرتبة. وتفتقر المكتبة الإسلامية إلى الدراسات التي توثق لتلك الهجرات وما تبعها من أواصر وارتباطات وآثار علمية واجتماعية وسياسية واقتصادية.
وهذه دراسةٌ علمية عن الإسهامات الدينية التي قدمها عرب حضرموت منذ أقدم عصور هجرتهم تلك وحتى العصر الحاضر، تقوم على الرصد الدقيق لتلك الإسهامات ولا سيّما المدوَّن منها، من خلال علم الببليوغرافيا القائم على البحث الميداني والتحليل الوصفي لتلك الأعمال المدوَّنة، بالوقوف عليها ومعاينتها ثم وصفها وتحليلها. والمأمول أن يكون هذا البحث عملاً علمياً مستوفياً للتوثيق اللازم من مصادره الأصلية يؤرّخ لتلك الهجرة الحضرمية المباركة التي توالت إلى تلك الديار ردحاً من الزمان.
