خرج من كلية الآداب من عين شمس (تخصص علم نفس ) ، عقب تخرجه التحق بالصحافة و ترأس القسم الثقافي بجريدة الاتحاد ، و تولى منصب رئيس التحرير التنفيذي بالجريدة نفسهاحتى 2008
ألتحق بهيئة أبو ظبي للثقافة والتراث مديراً لمشروع "قلم".
بدأ سلسلة إصداراته عام 1979 بمجموعة قصصية بعنوان "ذات المخالب" و أخرى شعرية . أما إصداراته الروائية فبدأت برواية "الإعتراف" عام 1980
فاز بجائزة الإمارات التقديرية للعلوم والفنون خرج من كلية الآداب من عين شمس (تخصص علم نفس ) ، عقب تخرجه التحق بالصحافة و ترأس القسم الثقافي بجريدة الاتحاد ، و تولى منصب رئيس التحرير التنفيذي بالجريدة نفسهاحتى 2008

صدرت له ثماني روايات هي بالترتيب:

2. السيف و الزهرة
3. رماد الدم .
4. نافذة الجنون .
5. تل الصنم .
6. ثنائية مجبل بن شهوان .
7. سلائم .
8. ثنائية الروح و الحجر.
9. التمثال 2001.
أصدر أيضا مجموعة قصصية و أخرى نثرية و مسرحيتين ، بجانب مجموعة من المقالات الصحافية الأدبية.
اختيرت مؤخرا روايته " الاعتراف" إحدى أهم رواية عربية في القرن العشرين من جانب اتحاد الكتاب العرب.

كان يقول أبي لأمّي: - الولد لا يشبهني في شيء. هذا الولد يخوّفني كثيراً يا أمّ قابض. عفراء بنت، لكنّها تشبهني كثيراً في تصرّفاتها. البنت عفراء يمكن أن يعتمد عليها، بينما قابض لا.. من هنا فهمت لماذا أبي كان يفضّل بنتاً على الولد. لو كنت أشبه أبي كما يرى، لما آل الحال لما أنا عليه، هكذا كان يريد، والآخرون يرون. كلّ إنسانٍ يريد أن يشبهه غيره. كلّ فردٍ منّا يسعى دائماً أن ينسخ من نفسه مئات بل آلاف وملايين البشر. لا يريد من يخالفه. لا يحبّ النقيض. لكن كيف؟ أنا لا أريد ذلك. أكره أن أكون نسخةً طبق الأصل من غيري. أكره الأشياء المتشابهة، وذات اللون الواحد، والوجه الواحد.
