بعد ساعات طوال كلَّت خطا وقادتني إلى بيتي، فسال قلبي كالماء بين الضلوع، قبَّلت الجدران، حضنت النوافذ، ثم طرقت على الباب بإلحاح، وحين لم أسمع جواباً! دفعته بقدمي ودخلت؛ رأيت والدي وجهاً لوجه، يداعب حبات سبحته ويتلو صلاته بخفوت...
بدا المشهد مرعباً! والهواء تجمّد بيننا!... تفرَّسني بذهول ولسان كلٍّ منا أُصيبَ بحبسةٍ!... بعد صمتٍ سألني: من أنت؟... ماذا تفعل هنا؟... بأي حقٍّ تقتحم بيتنا؟...
قلت وأنا أقرأ وجهه:
-هذا بيتي... ألم تعرفني؟...
-تشبه ابني الشهيد فداء.
- أنا هو، أنسيتني؟ ألم يدلَك قلبك عليَّ؟...
