"وأنا أحاول إيقاظها، فتحت شفتيها بكلمات مبهمة كأنها تناجي شيئاً مفتقَداً.
لم أبتعد عنها، فكرت أن أجادلها في أي حديث، لكنها صاحت في وجهي: - أي سر مقدس تحمله في قلبك يا رابي؟
ثم قفزَتْ من السرير ببطء، وسارت نحو البئر مستدِلّة بصوت الماء الذي يهز أحشاءه وأمام حاشيته وقفت عارية، وبعد أن دلقت دلو الماء على جسدها، عادت تسأل، وقد تناثرت جدائل شعرها عبر جيدها ووجهها اليقظان:
-أي سر تحمل في قلبك يا رابي؟...
قلت وقد أربكني سؤالها: - لا أسرار لي.
بعد أن اغتسلَت حملت الدلو كريشة التقطتها للتو، ووضعته أمام باب الغرفة، كان ضوء الفجر يمحو أثر الظلمة بسرعة، حينما عادت كان جسدها ما زال مبتلاً، كنت أنتظر أن تتفوّه بكلمة ما، لكنها ظلت صامتة إلى أن أخذها نوم أول الصباح".
