يشهد العصر الحديث تطوراً مذهلاً في العلوم الطبية، حيث تعددت وتنوعت هذه العلوم واكتسبت إضافات جديدة في مجالاتها المختلفة، ولقد أثرى التقدم التقني علوم الطب بما قدمه إليها من وسائل وإبتكارات حققت إنجازات هائلة في مجال الدراسة والأبحاث والتطبيق لمختلف التخصصات الطبية، ولكل تخصص من هذه التخصصات مصطلحات عديدة ترتكز عليها دراسات وأبحاث وتطبيقات العلوم الطبية، وتزخر الكتب والمجلات والمنشورات العلمية بكم هائل من المصطلحات الطبية التي يحقق تفهمها وإستيعابها وإدراك مدلولها إثراء علميّاً له أبلغ الأثر في الدراسة والبحث والتطبيق العلمي.

وإذا نظرنا إلى المصطلحات الطبية نجد أن الغالبية العظمى منها مشتقة من أصول لاتينية ويونانية، وبمعرفة معاني هذه الأصول يسهل على المرء إدراك مدلول المصطلح الطبي، فقد يحمل هذا المصطلح جزءاً أو أكثر من كلمات لاتينية أو يونانية أو خليطاً من كلمات هاتين اللغتين، فإذا تحقق معرفة معنى كل جزء على حدة، أصبح من اليسير تفهم المعنى الشامل للمصطلح، بل ويكون من المستطاع تفهم معنى مصطلحات أخرى يدخل في تركيبها جزء أو أكثر من أجزاء هذا المصطلح.

تأسيساً على ما تقدم فكرنا في تأليف كتاب يضم أهم المصطلحات الطبية المتداولة، ويفسر معنى كل مصطلح باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية تفسيراً مسهباً، كما يبين معنى كل جزء من أجزاء المصطلح، ولقد دعم الكتاب بالجداول والأشكال التوضيحية التي تبين موقع المصطلح الطبي من جسم الإنسان، كما تعطى الجداول بعض النماذج لمصطلحات شائعة الإستعمال مع تبيان معاني الأجزاء المختلفة لهذه المصطلحات بالعربية والإنجليزية.

ولقد قسم الكتاب إلى عدة أبواب بحيث يشتمل كل باب على الصفات التشريحية والوظيفية والتشخيصية والمرضية والعلاجية لكل جهاز من أجهزة الجسم، كما تضمن الكتاب أبواباً أخرى عن بعض التخصصات مثل أمراض النساء والتوليد وطب الأطفال، ولقد رتبت المصطلحات في هذه الأبواب ترتيباً غير مقيد بالتسلسل الأبجدي، بحيث يوضع المصطلح في مقامه التشريحي أو الوظيفي أو المرضي أو العلاجي؛ وتسهيلاً للقارئ في الكشف عن المصطلح المطلوب معرفة معناه، رتبنا جميع المصطلحات ترتيباً أبجديّاً ووضعناها في صورة كشاف كلمات باللغة العربية وآخر باللغة الإنجليزية.

ويتصدر الكتاب مقدمة عن الأمراض وتفسير المصطلحات الطبية تشمل تعريف المصطلحات ومجالات إستخدامها والأفراد المستفيدين منها، وكيفية تكوين المصطلحات من أصولها اللاتينية واليونانية، كما تضمن الكتاب أيضاً قائمة بالمختصرات الشائعة الإستعمال في الحقل الطبي مع توضيح مدلول كل مختصر منها؛ ومن أهداف الكتاب تبسيط المصطلحات الطبية وشرح معانيها بإيجاز مع تقديم الأمثلة الموضحة للمعاني...
