وبالرغم من أن تنمية التفكير وجعله يتسم بالإبتكارية والإبداع هي مسؤولية التعليم بالدرجة الأولى إلا أن هذا يتطلب جهداً علمياً على المستوى القومي تشترك فيها الآسرة ببيئتها المنزلية والتعليم بمؤسساته النظامية والإعلام بأجهزته الرسمية والمجتمع بمناخه العام، بحيث تتكامل الجهود وتتكاتف الخبرات وتوجه نحو بناء وتنمية عقول عربية قادرة على أن تبدع فتعبر بنا من جمود وحدود ثقافة الذاكرة إلى مرونة وآفاق ثقافة الإبداع.
ويعتبر التصميم من أهم العلوم التي تهتم بالإبداع بشكل خاص بحيث يعتبر الإبتكار والإبداع من أهم ركائز وأساسيات التصميم، وحيث أن علم التصميم هو تلك العملية الكاملة لتخطيط شكل شيء ما، وإنشائه بحيث يحقق الجانب الوظيفي، وفي نفس الوقت يجلب السرور إلى النفس، أي لإشباع حاجة الإنسان نفعياً وجمالياً في وقت واحد، فإن التعرف على علم التصميم ودراسته وفهم جوانبه من أهم العناصر التي يجب أن يتعرف عليها دارس التصميم ومن خلال هذا الكتاب يتناول المؤلفان شرح لمبادئ التصميم والأسس لهامه لتعليم التصميم.
