العلماء ورثة الأنبياء ، وإن الأنبياء لم يورثوا ديناراً ولا درهماً وإنما ورَّثوا العلم ؛ فمن أخذ به . . أخذ بحظٍّ وافر . ومن نعم الله على هذه الأمة المحمدية أن هيَّأ لنا علماء جهابذة وقفوا حياتهم لنقل العلم وتدوينه ، ونسبوا الأقوال لقائليها ؛ لأن بركة العلم أن تعزوه لقائله ، ولقد خصَّنا المولى سبحانه بالأسانيد التي هي أنساب الكتب ؛ فلولا الإسناد . . لقال من شاء ما شاء . فالإسناد دين ، وهو من خصائص الأمة المحمدية ، ولا سيما أهل السنة والجماعة ، ولقد أفنى العلماء أعمارهم في تحصيل الأسانيد ؛ لما لها من الأهمية في ديننا ، ولا ينقطع الإسناد من هذه الأمة بفضل الله ومِنَّته ، قال رسول الله ﷺ : « مثل أمتي كالمطر لا يُدرى أوله خيرٌ أم آخره » . وقال سفيان الثوري رحمه الله تعالى : ( الإسناد سلاح المؤمن ، فإذا لم يكن معه سلاح . . فبأي شيءٍ يقاتل ؟! ) ، ولما عرفوا قدره . . بذلوا المهج في تحصيله ؛ إرضاء لمولاهم ، فمن عرف ما يطلب . . هان عليه ما يبذل . ولقد اهتم العلماء قديماً وحديثاً بعلم الأسانيد ، فلم يقتصروا على علم الحديث فحسب ، بل أصبح لكل كتاب إسناد إلى مؤلفه ، حتى ألف العلماء الأثبات في الأسانيد . وإن العلامة الهرري ـ حفظه الله تعالى ـ يبثُّ في هذا الكتاب خلاصة عمره وما حصَّله من أسانيد إلى أمَّات الكتب ؛ لينتفع به من أخذ عنه أو درس . وقسَّم كتابه ورتبه على سبعة عشر باباً في مختلف الفنون من حديث وتفسير ، وتوحيد وفقه على المذاهب الأربعة ، ونحو وبلاغة ، ومقولات ومنطق ووضع ، وعروض ، وتواريخ وطبقات ، ومواعظ وذكر . فجملة ما في هذا السفر من الأسانيد : أسانيد أربع مئة وخمسة وثمانين كتاباً ، كل ذلك بفضل الله وتوفيقه سبحانه وتعالى . ومما يبهج ويفرح تقديمُ أمثال هذه الكتب ؛ خدمةً للعلم وطلبته ، وطمعاً في الأجر من المولى سبحانه وتعالى .
