لقد أُنزل القرآن الكريم على سبعة أحرف كما ثبت في الأحاديث الصحيحة المتواترة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ولما كان العلماء قد اختلفوا في معنى الأحرف السبعة، فإن الرأي الذي يظهر قربه من الاحاديث الصحيحة السابقة، ومعناها، أن الأحرف السبعة هي: وجوه متعددة متغايرة منزلة من وجوه القراءة، يمكنك أن تقرأ بأي منها فتكون قد قرأت قرآناً منزلاً.
وقد استقر إلى يومنا هذا: أن القراءات العشر المتواترة الثابتة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مجموعة في ثلاث منظومات منها: "حرز الأماني ووجه التهاني في القراءات السبع المتواترة" المسماة بالشاطبية، للإمام القاسم بن فيرُّه بن خلف بن أحمد الشاطبي الرُّعيني الأندلسي، (ت 590هأ)، وتعتبر هذه المنظومة من عيون الشعر العربي، ومن أتقن المنظومات في القراءات السبع المتواترة.
وإحياء لهذا العلم الجليل في الأردن، فقد وضعت اللجنة المشرفة على قسم القراءات خطة للتأليف في مواد علم القراءات، لكي تكون مقررة على طلابها في القسم.
وهذا الكتاب هو نتاج هذا العمل، وقد كان المنهج في هذا الكتاب يميل إلى التيسير والتسهيل على طالب علم القراءات، وذلك ضمن النقاط التالية: التقديم لمنظومة الشاطبية بالتعريف الموجز بالإمام الشاطبي، وبالشاطبية، والتعريف بالإمام ابن الجزري، وبالدرة المضية، ضبط الأبيات الشعرية ضبطاً كاملاً، شرح الأبيات شرحاً مباشراً، تحقيق القول في مسائل المنظومتين، شرح الكلمات الغريبة في الهامش، كتابة الكلمات القرآنية بالرسم العثماني، تخريج الأحاديث الواردة في الشرح، عمل فهرس لموضوعات الشرح.
