إن الإهتمام بالتلميذ المتفوق يمثل تحدياً حضارياً لمواكبة التطور العلمي والتكنولوجي، فالدول التي تبحث عن التقدم والرفاهية تسعى إلى التعرف على المتفوقين من تلاميذها، وتتعهدهم بالرعاية لتنمية قدراتهم العقلية والفكرية ومواهبهم الإبتكارية لتجني ثمرة هذه الرعاية في المستقبل، وتكون هذه الرعاية عن طريق إعداد برامج دراسية متنوعة تفي بحاجاتهم التربوية الخاصة وتعدهم ليكونوا علماء المستقبل.
ونظراً لأهمية رعاية المتفوقين مبكراً وإعداد برامج خاصة بهم، فقد نشأت فكرة هذه الدراسة الحالية حول إعداد برنامج في الرياضيات لطلاب الصف التاسع المتفوقين، وقد توزعت هذه الدراسة على أربعة فصول وفق ما يلي: الفصل الاول: "التفوق والمتفوقون"، الفصل الثاني: "جوانب تعلم المعرفة الرياضية"، الفصل الثالث: "وحدات البرنامج المقترح في الرياضيات لطلاب الصف التاسع المتفوقين دليل المعلم"، الفصل الرابع: "وحدات البرنامج المقترح في الرياضيات لطلاب الصف التاسع المتفوقين دليل الطالب".
