سنح لي أن اورد في كتابي هذا شيئاً من التواريخ القديمة والإسلامية يكون تذكرة يغنيني عن مراجعة الكتب المطولة فاخترته واختصرته من الكامل تأليف الشيخ عز الدين على المعروف بان اللأثير الجزري وهو تاريخ ذكر فيه من ابتداء الزمان غلى سنة ثمان وعشرين وستمائة وهو نحو ثلاثة عشر مجلداً ومن تجاريب الأمم لبي أحمد بن مسكويه ومن تاريخ أبي عيسى أحمد بن علي المنجم المسمى بكتاب البيان عن تاريخ سني زمان العالم على سبيل الحجة والبرهان ذكر فيه التواريخ القديمة وهو مجلد لطيف ومن التريخ المظفري للقاضي شهاب الدين ابن أبي الدم الحموي وهو تاريخ يختص بالملة الإسلامية في نحو ستة مجلدات ومن تاريخ القاضي شمس الدين ابن خلكان المسمى بوفيات الاعيان رتبه على الحروف وهو نحو أربعة مجلدات ومن تاريخ اليمن للفقيه عمارة وهو مجلد لطيف ومن تاريخ القيروان المسمى بالجمع والبيان للضهاجي ومن تاريخ الدول المنقطعة لابن أبي منصور وهو نحو اربعة مجلدات ومن تاريخ على بن موسى بن محمد بن عبد الملك بن سعيد المغربي الأندلسي المسمى كتاب لذة الأحلام في تاريخ أمم الأعجام وهو نحو مجلدين ومن كتاب ابن سعيد المذكور المسمى بالمغرب في أخبار أهل المغرب وهو نحو خمسة عشر مجلداً ومن مفرج الكروب في اخبار بني أيوب للقاضي جمال الدين بن واصل وهو نحو ثلاثة مجلدات ومن تاريخ حمزة الأصفهاني وهو مجلد لطيف ومن تاريخ خلاط تأليف شرف بن أبي المطهر الأنصاري ومن سفر قضاة بني إسرائيل وسفر ملوكهم من أصل الكتب الأربعة والعشرين الثابتة عند اليهود بالتواتر وألفت التواريخ القديمة من هذا الكتاب على مقدمة وفصول خمسة (وأما التواريخ الإسلامية) فرتبتها على السنين حسب تأليف الكامل لابن الأثير (ولما تكامل) هخذا الكتاب سميته المختصر في أخبار البشر.
