التبصرة في أصول الفقه كتاب جعله المؤلف متوسطاً بين المبسوط الكبير والمختصر اللطيف وأراده تبصرة للمبتدئين وتذكرة للمنتهين. وقد تحاشى الألفاظ الصعبة والمعقدة، كما حرر أدلته كي يسهل أخذه على المتعلمين، كما صنف مسائله بحسب الترتيب المعتمد في كتب الأصول. وقد فقدت نسخ الكتاب حتى لم تبق منها سوى النسخة الوحيدة التي اعتمد عليها المحقق وهي نسخة بأوراقها تلويث وأكل أرضه وقد تمت مقابلتها على نسخ أخرى غير التي نسخت عنها وفيها بعض اللحن وكثير من الأخطاء الإملائية.
وقد قام المحقق بنسخ النص وتحقيقه تحقيقاً يجعله أقرب ما يكون إلى الأصل، وأتم السقط الذي وجد في النسخة بالاعتماد على كتاب اللمع للشيرازي، وقام بتحقيق الأقوال التي يذكرها الشيرازي في المسالة ونسبها إلى قائليها، ورجع إلى كتب كان إمام من الأئمة ليكون على يقين فيما ينقله عنهم أو ينسبه إليهم، ثم عمد إلى تحقيق النصوص الفقهية التي يذكرها الشيرازي في أثناء الاستدلال والنقاش وإتماما للفائدة ذكر المحقق جميع الأقوال والمذاهب المعرفة في كل مسألة، وربط بين مسائل الكتاب وبين أثر هذه المسائل الخلافية في الفروع الفقهية. كما بين المسائل التي خالف فيها لشيرازي الجمهور في هذا الكتاب "التبصرة" وترجم لكل رجل من الرجال الذين ذكرهم المؤلف، وخرج الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية، والأشعار التي استدل بها المؤلف، وقام بشرح الألفاظ العربية التي وردت في النص.
