إذا كانت الفلسفة الإسلامية هى التعبير الحيقي عن النتاج العقلي لفلاسفة الإسلام - شأنها شان علم الكلام- من حيث هو النتاج العقلي لجهود المتكلمين في صياغة العقيدة الإسلامية والدفاع عنها ضد المخالفين، فإن التصوف الاسلامي هى الوجه الآخر للحضارة الإسلامية، إذ أنه تعبير عن الجانب الروحي لهذه الحضارة في أخص خصائصها، وتزداد أهمية التصوف الصوفية كمحيي الدين ابن عربي ( ت 638هـ) وعبد الحق ابن سبعين (ت 669هـ) وصدر الدين القونوي (ت 672هـ)وعبد الكريم الجيلي ( ت 832هـ) لم يكونوا صوفيه خلص بل صوفيه متفلسفين ، فقد مزجوا التصوف بالفلسفة وقد ادى بهم هذا كله إلى تطبيق مذاهبهم على الوجود بغية تحديد علاقة الله بالعالم من ناحية وعلاقته تعالى بالانسان من ناحية اخرى.
