عنوان هذا الكتاب عنوان طموح تردّدنا في إعتماده لما عرفنا في كل محور من محاور الدرس متون كتب بعضها في أجزاء والآخر يفوق هذا الكتاب حجماً، وأياً كانت الزاوية التي نظرنا منها ببعض الشمول إلى مخطوطة هذا الكتاب وجدناها صفحة من موشور تترابط وتتداخل مع الصفحات الأخرى في الموشور نفسه حتى ليكاد الناظر في إحداها ينفذ بلا عناء كبير إلى الأخرى؛ وأياً كان موقع طبقة البحث التي حاولنا إختيارها من بين طبقات الدرس الأخرى لتكون الطبقة الأهم في محاور هذا الكتاب وجدنا لها عروقاً ضاربة في ما تقدمها من طبقات نسيج الزمان العربي وما تأخر.
بإختصار، اكتشفنا في المراحل الأخيرة من وضع هذا الكتاب ما وجب علينا إكتشافه في بدايتها وهو أن تاريخ العرب يستعصي على الإقتطاع والفصل والفرز أياً كان نوعه، ورأينا أن تاريخ العرب الطبيعي ليس سوى وجه تاريخهم الحضاري، وتاريخهم الحضاري ليس سوى وجه تاريخ الإبداع الذي يبدأ بإبتكار العدد الأول والحرف الأول والفكرة الأولى، وإن جمعنا كل هذه الأوجه في موشور بحثي واحد سنجد أمام عيوننا تاريخهم الإنساني الذي رأينا فيه تاريخ الإنسانية وحضارتها.
