يعد سيف الله خالد بن الوليد فتى بني مخزوم من ألمع الشخصيات العسكرية التي ظهرت في عصره وحتى ألف سنة لاحقة وبالتحديد حتى جاء نابليون بونابرت الذي سار على خطى خالد فطور الحرب الحركية وأبدع في استخدام الخيالة في المناورة السريعة لحسم المعركة.
ولقد شغفت بسيف الله منذ طفولتي وعندما دخلت الحياة العسكرية زاد حبي لخالد وتقديري له وعندما كتبت غزوات الرسول العربي صلى الله عليه وسلم أوائل السبعينات صممت أن أخص خالداً بكتاب مستقل... ولكن ظروف العمل لم تتح لي التفرغ للتصدي لهذه المهمة الصعبة حتى صدر كتاب الجنرال أ.أ.أكرم الباكستاني الجنسية عن خالد بن الوليد باللغة الإنكليزية بعد حرب تشرين التحريرية وأصدرت التوجيهات بأن يترجم الكتاب فوراً من قبل هيئة التدريب في القوات المسلحة إلى اللغة الغربية ولاقى الكتاب إقبالاً من الرفاق العسكريين ولا غرو في ذلك فالجنرال أكرم عسكري محترف ولذلك فقد سبقت عواطفه نحو خالد وتعصبه له عقله نحو عمر بن الخطاب أمير المؤمنين... وكانت دهشتي بالغة عندما علمت أن ضباطنا بدأوا يتعصبون لخالد ويتجنون على عمر بحكم التعاطف المهني عند ذلك وجدت أن لا مندوحة من التصدي لهذا التيار وتقديم كتاب جديد للقراء العرب عن خالد بن الوليد فيه كل حسنات كتاب الجنرال أكرم مع مخططات أفضل للمعارك الحربية التي خاضها خالد وتحليل دقيق لعبقريته الحربية في الفصل الأخير من الكتاب.. كما عللت بشكل موضوعي سبب إقالة خالد وعزله عن إمارة الجيش وأرجعت ذلك لأسبابه الحقيقية لأن عمر ابن الخطاب مؤسس الدولة العربية الأولى فوق كل الشبهات كما أن الرسول العربي قال في معرض تقديره للفاروق: "لو كان نبي من بعدي لكان عمر".
وفي الختام إنني أضع هذا الكتاب بين أيدي رفاق السلاح في الأقطار العربية كافة وكلي أمل في أن يقتفي جنودنا العرب خطوات خالد سواء في شجاعته أم في مناورته على الأعداء.
