إن أردت أن تدرس حالة مجتمع ما من ماضيه إلى حاضره، على نحو بليغ ومركز، عليك بدراسة أحوال الشباب فيه إعداداً وفرصاً. وإذا أردت أن تستشرف مستقبل هذا المجتمع خلال العقود التالية، فإن فهم أوضاع الشباب وفرصة تزودك بالكثير من أبعاد هذا الاستشراف، ومن هنا كان اختيار موضوع البحث الراهن: الوعى الدينى، ولدى الشباب، تجسيداً للوعى والالتزام، جرأة وشفافية، وقدرة على مواصلة البحث فى موضوع هام حافل طريقه بالكثير من علامات السير المتقاطعة وربما الملتبسة والمتشابكة. ولهذا كان بحاجة إلى باحثة من نوع خاص، وإلى تصميم نظرى ومنهجى ذى مواصفات علمية نوعية.
لقد قرأت الباحثة النظريات الأساسية فى علم الاجتماع، قراءة تحليلية نقدية ومتأملة لتختار من بينها، فاختارت النظرية النقدية. فهى النظرية الأكثر انفتاحاً على الواقع المجتمعى المتغير، والأكثر قدرة على استيعاب مستجداته، وهى النظرية التى تتيح للباحث حرية حوار منضبط وملتزم بقيم العلم، مع الواقع المدروس.
واستكملت الباحثة أهم مقومات وعيها بماذا تبحث وكيف تبحث، فأتت اختياراتها المنهجية منظومة متفاعلة جمعت بين الفهم التاريخى لوعى الشباب فى علاقاته بالقوى الفاعلة فى بنية المجتمع، وبين فهم جدلى لإدراك التشابكات بين مكونات بنية الوعى الدينى من ناحية وعلاقاته مع أنماط الوعى الأخرى. إضافة إلى عمل ميدانى ملموس لحالات من الشباب الجامعى، باعتبار المرحلة الجامعية هى المرحلة التى تتمم إعداد الشباب، -وبصرف النظر عن نوعية هذا الإعداد- للمشاركة فى شؤون المجتمع والدولة، مشاركة واعية منتمية، أو فردية أنانية آنية، سعيها اقتناص المتاح.
لقد مكن كل هذا وغيره مما يضيق المقام عن التفصيل فيه من تقديم نموذج علمى، بحاجة إلى التأمل والتقييم، لإثراء الوعى بدور العلم فى استدامة حقيقية ومطردة للتنمية. إن البحث يثير الاستفزاز العلمى الإيجابى للإجادة، ويقدم نتائج وقرائن تساعد المعنى بالسياسات الاجتماعية -بمعناها الشامل التعليمى والصحى والثقافى والاقتصادى والسياسى.. إلخ- فى فهم الكثير من أفعال وردود أفعال الشباب.
