﴿وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ﴾... عادةً اعتادها، غير مضطرّ فيها إلاّ إلى تبريرها وتعليلها، وما أسوغ الكذب في شفتَي الخنجر الغادر!...
في هذه الرواية، يتخلّص المؤلف من بطاقة "الهُويّة"، ويطرح جانباً لغته، ويخبّئ دينَه ومذهبه، ويستر عاداتِه وتقاليدَه وأزياءه وما يملك، ليتجلّى بإنسانيته، إنسانيّته المتألّمة الموجعة، التي انفجرت فيها الحرب، فتمزّقت أحزاناً، ودموعاً، وأسّى، ورعباً، وركاماً، ودماراً، ومقابر عبّدَتْ طرقِاتها المآتم.
